A slightly risque thing I've started doing is sending emails to my boss without an opening greeting. I understand it's not proper, but half of the time I spend on emails is just agonizing over the greeting I ought to use because six years ago I was instructed to always open with one, but also that the boss doesn't appreciate the use of vocative forms for given names which is unfortunate because you're supposed to use those for male names no matter how you feel about them. So what then? Also it's very weird to me to greet someone multiple times a day. Especially someone who accepts and responds to texts with smilies. Hopefully we can reach an understanding that I'm simply in a great hurry rather than intentionally disrespectful, though I feel I may have let his texting style lull me into a false sense of security.
